Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid activist and politician who served as the first president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.

Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918,in  Mvezo, Cape Province, South Africa. He was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician. philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. 

1 - In the 1940s,Nelson Mandela became actively involved in the anti-apartheid movement, joining the African National Congress (ANC). He played a key role in the struggle against apartheid, the system of racial segregation and discrimination enforced by the National Party government in South Africa. Nelson Mandela and other activists fought for equality and the end of racial discrimination.

2 - In 1964, Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment for plotting to overthrow the government. He was imprisoned for 27 years, most of which time was spent on Robben Island. In Nelson Mandela became a symbol of the anti-apartheid movement and his imprisonment attracted international attention.

3 - In 1990,Nelson Mandela was released from prison after years of international pressure and internal reforms in South Africa. He played a key role in negotiating the end of apartheid and participated in South Africa's peaceful transition to ethnic democracy. In 1994, Mandela became the country's first black president in the country's first fully representative democratic election.

4 - As president, Nelson Mandela focused on healing the deep wounds caused by apartheid. He established the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to investigate human rights violations during the apartheid era. Mandela's commitment to leadership and coordination earned him worldwide recognition and admiration.

5-After becoming president, Nelson Mandela remained active in promoting peace, human rights and social justice. He has received several awards and honors including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.Mandela's life and legacy continue to inspire people around the world and he is considered one of the most important figures of the 20th century.

Nelson Mandela died at the age of 95 on 5 December 2013 in Johannesburg, South Africa. However, his impact on South Africa and the world will always be remembered.

1 - 1918: Nelson Mandela was born on July 18 in Mwezo, Cape Province, South Africa.

2 - 1944: Nelson Mandela joined the African National Congress (ANC),which aimed to challenge the discriminatory policies of the apartheid regime.

3 - 1952: As a leading member of the ANC, Nelson Mandela played a key role in organizing the Defense Campaign, a nonviolent protest against apartheid laws.

4 - 1956: Nelson Mandela was arrested on charges of treason along with other national leaders. Although he was acquitted in 1961,the trial had a significant impact on his life and political activism.

5 - 1960: Following the Sharpeville massacre, where 69 peaceful protesters were killed, the South African government banned the ANC and anti-apartheid organizations. Nelson Mandela went underground and became a prominent leader of the ANC's armed forces, known as Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK).

6 - 1962: Nelson Mandela travels abroad to drum up support for the ANC's fight against apartheid. During this, he received military training and established contacts with various African and international leaders.

7-1963: Nelson Mandela was arrested on charges of plotting and overthrowing the government. In what became known as the Rivonia Trial, he and other national leaders faced the prospect of the death penalty.

8 - 1964–1990: Nelson Mandela is sentenced to life imprisonment and spends the next 27 years in prison, first on Robben Island, then at Pollsmoor  Prison and Victor Verster Prison. His imprisonment made him a global symbol of the anti-apartheid movement.

9 - 1980s: Nelson Mandela's imprisonment becomes a rallying point for the international anti-apartheid movement. Governments, organizations and individuals around the world demanded his release.

10 - 1990: Due to increasing pressure and internal reforms in South Africa, President F.W. Clarke ordered Nelson Mandela's release from prison on 11 February.

11 -1994: The first non-apartheid democratic election was held in South Africa on 27 April and Nelson Mandela was elected President of the National Congress. The ANC won by a significant margin, and on 10 May, Mandela was appointed as the country's first black president.

12 - 1994–1999: Nelson Mandela served as President of South Africa, focusing on national reconciliation, dismantling apartheid-era policies, and promoting social and economic equality. He established the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to investigate human rights violations during apartheid.

13 - 2004: After retiring from politics, Nelson Mandela devoted himself to various humanitarian and philanthropic activities through the Nelson Mandela Foundation and other organizations. He continued to advocate world peace, human rights and social justice.

14 - 2013: Nelson Mandela died on 5 December at the age of 95,leaving behind a deep legacy as a symbol of freedom, forgiveness and resilience in the face of injustice.
