1-Hinduism: In Hinduism,Gurupurnima is associated with the sage Vyasa,who is considered to be the author of the Mahabharata,one of the ancient Hindu epics.It is   believed that on this day,Vyasa was born or divided the Vedic scriptures into four parts.Therefore,Gurupurnima is also known as Vyasa Purnima.

2-Buddhism: In Buddhism, Gurupurnima is celebrated as Esala Poya in Sri Lanka and Dharma Chakra Day in other Buddhist countries.It commemorates the first sermon given   by Lord Buddha after attaining enlightenment,known as the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta.

3-Jainism: For Jains,Gurupurnima is known as Treenok Guha Purnima or Jain Chaturmas Samapana.It marks the end of the four-month-long monsoon retreat period observed   by Jain monks and nuns.On this day,they seek forgiveness from fellow monks for any transgressions committed during their time in retreat.
